After the merge

What remains before design sign-off

The owner brief is aligned. These remaining items require interior-designer input, specialist confirmation, measurements or later selections; they do not reopen the completed brainstorm and merge.

Context and Design Intent

Create an efficient, ventilated and accessible service balcony centred on a daily laundry workflow while also accommodating cleaning equipment, damp-item drying, the robot-vacuum dock, humidity control and household utility services. Keep circulation clear, make appliance and service access practical, and avoid allowing storage to obstruct the robot route or laundry work.

This is the authoritative merged requirements record for the Service balcony. It preserves agreed requirements, attributed owner positions and unresolved choices from Fahmi's and Yasmin's independent brainstorms. The Service balcony consolidates the former Service yard and Laundry areas under the official floor-plan terminology.

Non-Negotiables

SVC-NN-001 — Agreed: Retain and serve the existing front-loading washing machine, subject to verification of its model, dimensions, electrical load, water connection, drainage, door swing and maintenance clearances.
SVC-NN-002 — Agreed: Provide a safe, accessible position and suitably located power point for vertical steam-ironing hanging garments. No built-in ironing board or permanent Service balcony footprint for the Philips convertible ironing system is required.
SVC-NN-003 — Agreed: Make the Service balcony the primary home for mops, brooms, buckets and damp cleaning equipment rather than placing these items in the dry storeroom.
SVC-NN-004 — Agreed: Provide enclosed, ventilated storage for cleaning supplies and wet equipment. Demonstrate sufficient airflow for damp items to dry reliably without stale odour; no open shelving is required.
SVC-NN-005 — Agreed: Locate the robot-vacuum dock in the Service balcony and provide permanent power, clean-water supply and wastewater drainage for the current dock and a reasonably future-proofed replacement.
SVC-NN-006 — Agreed: Retain dehumidifier-assisted drying and provide permanent power, airflow and wastewater drainage for the dehumidifier.

Strongly Preferred

SVC-SP-007 — Coordinate verified appliance dimensions, electrical loads, water, drainage, ventilation, ceiling and wall mounting, operating envelopes and service clearances before design freeze.
SVC-PI-008 — Agreed: Provide a powered, motorised ceiling-mounted drying rack with capacity for at least one normal full load. Confirm the useful hanging capacity, ceiling clearance, controls, lighting interaction and maintenance access before selection.
SVC-PI-009 — Agreed: Keep the robot approach path naturally level and continuously unobstructed, without relying on an aftermarket ramp. Preserve docking, lid or tank access and servicing clearance.
SVC-SP-011 — Agreed: Support the daily workflow of sorting, washing, hanging, dehumidifier-assisted drying, temporary clean-laundry holding and occasional ironing without blocking circulation.
SVC-SP-012 — Agreed: Reserve space and suitable services for a future separate tumble dryer. Determine stacked versus side-by-side placement through measured layout testing.
SVC-SP-013 — Agreed: Provide effective task lighting for laundry work and the drying rack, plus a fixed fan that supports drying without consuming critical floor space.
SVC-SP-014 — Agreed: Use natural ventilation as the normal mode, provide air-conditioning for on-demand humidity control and comfort, and retain the dehumidifier as a supplementary or fallback drying method. Do not assume that mechanical ventilation alone is sufficient.
SVC-SP-015 — Agreed: Maintain a clear, clutter-free circulation path and practical access to every appliance, storage zone, basket position, valve, trap, filter and service connection.
SVC-YP-026 — Agreed, subject to feasibility: Raise the retained washing machine on a custom carpentry platform with drawers to reduce bending. Target approximately 25–30 cm, subject to the ergonomic, structural, vibration, servicing and future-dryer checks under SVC-SF-033.
SVC-SP-046 — Agreed: Provide a flexible basket arrangement with space for at least one permanent clean-clothes carrier and temporary accommodation for a visiting sorting basket where practical. Avoid bespoke basket carpentry that prevents later changes in basket size or quantity.
SVC-YP-029 — Agreed: Use latch-sliding replacement windows with insect mesh and normal manual operation. Rain-response or remote automation is optional only if it passes SVC-SF-038.
SVC-YP-031 — Agreed: Support Yasmin's existing vertical steam-ironing workflow on hanging garments; no fixed ironing board is required.
SVC-YP-032 — Agreed, cost-conditioned: Use moisture-resistant carpentry and wet-area-durable surfaces and fittings throughout if the quoted premium is reasonable and not exorbitant. Require a transparent price comparison; if the premium is excessive, return with a zone-based alternative for joint approval.

Decisions Outstanding

SVC-DO-039 — Select stacked or side-by-side future-dryer provision after the retained washer, raised-platform proposal and circulation clearances are measured together.
SVC-DO-044 — Decide whether a compact utility sink adds sufficient value to justify its footprint; Fahmi has kept it under consideration and Yasmin recorded no requirement for one.
SVC-DO-045 — Verify the remaining existing equipment inventory and models, particularly the washing machine, dehumidifier, vertical steam iron and baskets, before design freeze. The current robot dock is confirmed as the Dreame L10s Special Edition.

Differences Requiring Joint Discussion

None unresolved. The five previously recorded differences are preserved under Resolved Joint Positions.
Detailed requirements and coordination

Resolved Joint Positions

SVC-DO-010 — Resolved by matching independent positions: Use natural ventilation when conditions allow, with on-demand air-conditioning and dehumidifier-assisted drying. Final AC type, capacity, condensate route and relationship to the kitchen remain subject to professional design.
SVC-DO-040 / SVC-DIFF-001 — Wet-tool storage: Resolved 15 August 2026. Use enclosed, ventilated storage with demonstrated drying performance, as recorded under SVC-NN-004.
SVC-DO-041 / SVC-DIFF-002 — Laundry baskets: Resolved 15 August 2026. Use the flexible arrangement under SVC-SP-046, including at least one permanent clean-clothes carrier and temporary sorting-basket accommodation where practical.
SVC-DO-042 / SVC-DIFF-003 — Ironing provision: Resolved 15 August 2026. Support vertical steam-ironing on hanging garments and do not reserve a fixed board or Philips-system footprint, as recorded under SVC-NN-002 and SVC-YP-031.
SVC-DO-043 / SVC-DIFF-004 — Window operation: Resolved 15 August 2026. Use latch-sliding windows with insect mesh as the base arrangement; treat automation as optional and subject to SVC-SF-038.
SVC-DIFF-005 — Recorded routine responsibility: Closed as non-design metadata on 15 August 2026. The source files retain their different descriptions of who normally performs laundry. The room must be safe, accessible and practical for both owners; no division of household responsibility is inferred or prescribed.

Attributed Owner Positions

These positions remain attributed and are not jointly agreed unless explicitly reclassified later.

Fahmi

SVC-FP-018 — Provide a utility tap with a practical hose connection for washing the windows and Service balcony.
SVC-FP-019 — Keep a compact utility sink under consideration if measured layout testing shows that its value justifies the footprint given the nearby kitchen sink.
SVC-FP-021 — Provide bright, controllable work lighting and convenient general-use outlets around the available walls so temporary and future equipment can operate without extension leads.
SVC-FP-022 — Place hazardous cleaning products in a higher cabinet with a concealed, keyless child-resistant latch and provision for a future combination-lock retrofit.
SVC-FP-023 — Use matte, practically slip-resistant floor tiles and stain-resistant grout.
SVC-FP-024 — Replace the floor-standing side fan with a wall- or ceiling-mounted fan directed toward clothes and the ventilated wet-tool cabinets.

Yasmin

SVC-YP-030 — Use warm neutral hues and a modern, luxurious finish consistent with the whole home.

Provisional Ideas

SVC-FP-020 — Remote or rain-responsive window operation may be included only if it integrates safely and maintainably with the latch-sliding windows, insect mesh, grilles, waterproofing and normal manual operation.

Subject to Feasibility

SVC-SF-033 — Confirm the raised washer platform's ergonomic height, structural support, vibration control, drawer practicality, service access and compatibility with the future-dryer arrangement before fixing carpentry.
SVC-SF-034 — Demonstrate a measured layout accommodating the retained washer, future dryer, drying rack, robot dock, dehumidifier, AC, fixed fan, storage, basket provision and required circulation.
SVC-SF-035 — Coordinate windows, grilles or mesh, AC, fixed fan and dehumidifier across natural-ventilation and contained drying modes without condensation, rain-entry, security or maintenance problems.
SVC-SF-036 — The current robot dock is confirmed as the Dreame L10s Special Edition. Measure its actual envelope and test a reasonable range of future self-servicing dock envelopes, approach paths and service clearances.
SVC-SF-037 — Confirm existing waterproofing, required floor and waterproofing works, natural falls to the nearest floor trap and accessible drainage routes without ponding, odour or backflow.
SVC-SF-038 — Test whether remote window automation, rain response, latch-sliding operation and insect mesh can be combined safely and maintainably; preserve normal manual operation.

Questions for the Interior Designer

What measured layout fits every agreed appliance and storage function while keeping circulation and the robot route clear?
What raised-washer arrangement is structurally sound, controls vibration, preserves servicing access and remains compatible with future dryer placement?
How will the current and future robot docks connect to power, clean water and wastewater while remaining accessible for servicing?
What motorised drying rack provides at least one full load of useful hanging capacity, and how will it coordinate with lighting, airflow, AC and ceiling clearance?
What AC, natural-ventilation, fixed-fan and dehumidifier arrangement provides reliable drying and comfortable ironing without condensation or stale odour?
How will the enclosed ventilated cabinets provide and demonstrate enough airflow for wet tools to dry without stale odour?
What flexible basket zone supports the permanent clean-clothes carrier and temporary sorting without compromising higher-priority equipment or circulation?
Can rain-responsive automation, latch-sliding windows and insect mesh be integrated safely with manual override, grilles, waterproofing and maintenance access?
How will valves, traps, filters, pipework, appliance connections and access panels remain neat but serviceable?
What waterproofing, floor falls, grout and wet-area materials are appropriate, and how will correct drainage be verified on site?

Whole-Home Coordination

Apply SYS-NN-003: provide permanent water-supply and wastewater connections for the robot-vacuum dock and dehumidifier, alongside properly planned washing-machine and AC drainage.
Apply SYS-SP-001 and SYS-SP-005: confirm electrical capacity and coordinate accessible power, plumbing, drainage, AC and service routes before carpentry.
Coordinate the Service balcony AC, windows, grilles or mesh and airflow with the kitchen; do not assume that one space can cool the other without professional sizing and containment analysis.
Maintain a naturally level robot route to the rest of the home. Robot-vacuum access into WC1 and WC2 is not required.
Coordinate the future-dryer allowance, washer platform, ceiling rack, lighting, fan and AC so one provision does not block another.
Keep all valves, traps, filters, pipes, couplings and appliance connections behind neat removable access panels rather than permanently sealing them.
